If you get important emails in your Gmail then how do you get SMS notifications on your mobile?
Twitter supports text notification for their email service whereas Google doesn`t. If we sort out a path to connect our Gmail accounts and Twitter, the notifications in Gmail can arrive as text on twitter as well as on our mobile phone.
In Twitter, any user is eligible to follow a simple SMS. They provide short codes for all countries and next if you type FOLLOW to this short code following by the username, then any tweets send from that user will arrive in your mobile as text notifications. For example, if you are in some other country like the US, you can tweet FOLLOW WikiMonks to 40404 to get my tweets as text messages. Usually, users in India can text FOLLOW WikiMonks to 9248948837 to get the tweets via SMS.
Twitter short code service can act as a Gmail SMS notifier. While you are creating a new Twitter account, then set the privacy to private and this account will send a tweet if you get a new email in Gmail. The SMS notifications start pouring in if you follow your account via SMS from your main Twitter account.
Use Twitter as a Gmail Notifier with Google Scripts
How can you use Twitter to get SMS notification for useful email in your Gmail account? There is a procedural guide. It will take a minute to setup -> internally, there is a Google Apps Script
that monitors your Gmail mailbox background as soon as a new message arrives in your account, and then the script delivers out a tweet.
Make sure of your email address, ->open the Twitter settings page and check the option “Protect My Tweets.” This makes your Gmail notifications private and neither Twitter users will be able to see tweets nor other search engines generated through Gmail.
Select this, to copy the Google Sheet and choose Authorize under the Gmail to the Twitter menu (near the Help option). Never forget to authorize with your new Twitter account.
Once authorized, select start from Gmail to the Twitter menu and enter your query to Gmail search. For example, you can say is: important is: unread in: inbox newer than:1d to receive only notification for new, unread and important emails in your Gmail. Click OK.
The Gmail notifier is running and it tweets when a matching email is found. It runs every 10-15 minutes and works only on incoming text, not the old text. The messages will also be logged in the Google Sheet so you can understand what is happening behind the scene.
Close the existing and Open new browser session in Incognito mode, log in with your old Twitter account and then send a follow request to your created new Gmail account on Twitter. Approve the new follower request and you can see tweets for new Gmail messages, as the message arrives, in your main Twitter timeline.
Do you like to receive SMS alerts on your mobile phone for new Gmail messages, the just open the Twitter profile page of your Gmail and turn on Mobile Notifications?
Only if you have connected this will obviously work (and verified) your mobile phone with your main Twitter account.
