SONY MDR-1000X

Wireless over-ear headphones with active noise cancellation. For a company of Sony’s stature, this is hardly a new territory. On concord, nevertheless, this is a decided move to dominate this end of the market. To take down the ubiquitous Bose, the Sony MDR-1000X is here. These headphones are a common sight on every train and plane. The timing is also pretty good. The iPhone 7 has done away with the traditional 3.5 mm headphone jack. Those who don’t want to faff about with adaptors will need a good cord-cutting alternative. The good wireless headphones demand has never been higher. Sony’s biggest obstacle is the Bose QuietComfort 35. This has all but claimed this turf. On concord, Sony isn’t simply offering silence and freedom of movement. It has some tricks that give you greater control over isolation and playback. These skills make Sony a formidable challenger to the throne. The Sony MDR-1000X are the new headphones to beat.

Easy listening

The MDR-1000X sounds great for a pair of wireless headphones. A pair of cans on par with what you will get from Bose was created by Sony’s audio prowess. Music sounds full and offers full and rich bass, and true to the recording without overdoing it. Those who prefer their music uncompressed will also be able to get take advantage of Sony’s Hi-Res Audio offering by plugging in the cable. Though, the wireless option does the trick just fine for most cases.

Sony’s also done an excellent job with the noise cancellation. It’s not tuned quite as well to plane sounds as Bose’s offering. Other than that it does a really great job drowning out the sounds of daily life so much so that it’s probably a bad idea to have it turned on while walking down a city street if you are the sort who already tends to lose track of their surroundings.

Sony rates the battery at 20 hours more than enough time to get you from Dallas to Sydney. I was able to get through several days of use without having to charge the headphones.
