Xiaomi Redmi Note 4

Xiaomi Redmi Note 4

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 has continued to keep the company’s tradition of launching devices in low price range. We know that the predecessor of this, Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 has hit a great position in the last year. It is the latest mid-range phablet of the company that certainly looks like a fantastic upgrade over the Note 3.

Like the predecessor, Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 has an all-metal body with impressing features. The Note 4 was packed with the Qualcomm Chip with a MediaTek SoC in the Indian markets. And the camera is also better than the last year’s product. This Note 4 was unveiled in August last year.

Xiaomi has designed three variants of the Redmi Note 4. They are “2GB of RAM with 32GB storage, 3GB of RAM with 32GB storage and the main model being 4GB of RAM with 64GB storage”. All these are now available in the Indian market with the price tags Rs.9,999, Rs.10,999, and Rs.12,999 respectively.

Now, let us know all about the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 in this review in detail.

Design and Features:

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 is designed in the same size as its predecessor, Redmi Note 3. The all-metal body feels sturdy and less slippery than the predecessor. The 2.5D curved -edge glass and the slim borders across the front gives a premium feel. The 13MP rear camera, dual-tone LED flash and fingerprint scanner are set up on the back panel that looks alike the Redmi Note 3.

One of the few differences between the two is that the speaker grilles have been shifted from the back panel to the bottom. The bottom consists of a Micro-USB port for charging and data transfers along with the speaker grilles. And the top consists a 3.5mm audio jack and an infrared (IR) emitter. The power and volume buttons are placed on the right-side of the mobile. This placement will be easy to access with fingers.

The SIM card slots are on the left-side of the mobile. Either dual-SIMs(micro and nano) may be used or one micro SIM and a microSD card can be used. The microSD slot is expandable up to 128GB. The 5.5-inch display dominates the front panel having the navigation buttons which gives you a feel like the Redmi Note 3. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 was launched in 3 colors, dark gray, gold, and Matte black.

Display:

The 5.5-inch full-HD IPS display is designed with a resolution of 1080 x 720 pixels. It has a density of 401ppi. Because of the full-HD resolution, the display can make the text, and images appear razor sharp. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 can display legibly even in the bright sunshine. The size of the screen makes the Redmi Note 4 suitable to watch videos and movies. You can adjust the color temperature from the Settings app.

There’s a “Reading Mode” which makes the display more comfortable to use while reading. This reading mode is a blue light filter that makes it easier to read the text even at night.

Camera:

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 features a 13MP rear camera with f/2.0 aperture lens, PDAF with a LED flash. There’s a 5MP front-facing camera with f/2.0 aperture and fixed focus lens. The camera can capture detailed images with the 13MP camera. The camera app includes with it a number of options that can be used. The images can be captured in beauty mode, panorama, or in manual mode.

The rear camera can record videos with full HD 1080 pixels resolution that will result in a good quality. While the front camera can also record videos but with 720 pixels resolution. These features show that the camera and the picture quality has improved pretty much compared to its previous launch.

Ports:

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 is designed to have a microUSB v2.0 to charge the battery and to transfer files. You can find this USB port at the bottom of the mobile along with the Speaker grilles. At the top, there exists a 3.5mm audio jack and an IR emitter.

Processor and Storage:

Unlike the variant launches that has a MediaTek chipset, the Redmi Note 4 in India runs on Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor. It will be available in three variants – 2GB RAM with 32GB storage, 3GB RAM with 32GB storage and 4GB RAM with 64GB storage. Our review unit had 4GB RAM with 64GB internal storage, of which only 51GB was user accessible. It also supports an expandable memory of up to 128GB but through the hybrid slot, which can be either used as a secondary SIM slot or memory card slot.

Battery Life:

Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 has a non-removable battery with a capacity of 4100mAh. This battery is marginally bigger than the previous version of Redmi Note which has 4050mAh. The battery of Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 is excellent that it can last for 15 hours with a continuous video playback. This proves to be an ultimate choice within this budget. Moreover, it can remain with a half day juice without turning on any of the battery saver modes.

Performance:

The Redmi Note 4 takes just a few minutes for its initial setup after which it results in a smooth operation. The device runs on MiUi8, built on Android Marshmallow. There is a security app that includes a cleaner, data usage, block list, virus, scan, and permission. Xiaomi has added a default browser along with Google Chrome in the new device. Browsing the web, streaming videos on YouTube, playing games works smoothly without any lag or heating issues. Swiping down within the file explorer opens the password page for accessing hidden files.

There is an option to create a second space on the phone. You can find this in the settings. Activating the secondary storage space will quickly reboot the phone and a switch icon appears on the home screen. This can be used to add data. Setting a password will protect the secondary space. Just a single click on the switch icon will alter the storage space of your phone. There is also a light mode that makes the UI icons large and simple to operate.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 can perform the best with the 4100mAh battery that can last nearly for two days. The battery alone will make the mobile, an ultimate device to choose from.
