MSI GS63VR Stealth Pro
The GS63VR Stealth Pro is a slim Windows gaming laptop. Any device that is as slim as the gaming laptop comprises its specification in performance. But this can be placed on the list as one of the best laptops because it doesn’t sacrifice its performance even if it is slim. This is all because of the powerful core i7 processor and Nvidia Pascal video card.
This is a 15-inch inch gaming laptop that can easily replace the desktop just because of its speed. It weighs less with 1.9 kgs (i.e., 4.2 pounds) to lay on our laps and 9.8 x 14.9 x 0.69-inch (HWD) chassis. The slim laptop can support the Virtual Reality Headsets such as the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. As any device has a flaw with it, this Stealth pro too has one, i.e., it gets heated up when playing games for which it’s famous. Beyond this, it is an ultimate laptop as far as gaming is concerned.
Design and Features:
The MSI managed to fuse all the powerful components in the 15-inch light-weight laptop. There are some other top laptops on the market such as the Gigabyte P55W, Alienware 15, and Digital Storm Equinox. When compared with these, GS63VR is the slimmest 15-inch laptop among these. Rather the Stealth Pro is more than a slim chassis. The laptop shines as its lid is brushed with a black aluminum coating. As this lid anticipates our touch on it, it clearly shows the fingerprints on it. There’s the red and white backlit dragon emblem in the center of the lid as well as the fine red accents along the rear vents.
The design of the aluminum interior is similar to that of the previous releases (laptops) of the Stealth. Moreover, there are a few changes that include an orange power light. This light hides at the center of the top-mounted heat vent and the red, chrome-lined touchpad. Between both of these, sits the backlit keyboard, glowing alertly in its recessed dock. The laptop is lined with a gray textured soft-touch material under it.
Ports:
The Stealth laptop doesn’t comprise any ports on the rare and front side of the laptop. Instead, ports exist on both the sides (left and right sides) of the gaming laptop. The right side is designed to have USB 2.0, Thunderbolt 3 with USB 3.1 Type-C, HDMI 1.4, a Mini-DisplayPort 1.2, power port and the power button. Whereas Kensington secure lock slot, Gigabit Ethernet, SD card reader, 3x USB 3.0, headphones/SPDIF jack, and microphone jack exist on the left side.
Display:
The Stealth Pro’s has a resolution of 1920 x 1080 matte display. The 15.6 inches matte panel shows with vivid colors, particularly when it comes to red. Most of the Stealth Pro’s vividness comes from its ability to reproduce maximum (more than 100%) of the sRGB color gamut.
The Stealth Pro was left behind on the brightness test with an average of 242 units. It misses the 264-unit mark on the brightness. However, this is better than the Alienware 15’s 222 units. But doesn’t match the average of the Equinox (293 units) or the P55W (321 units).
Software:
MSI has designed the GS63VR giving the Dragon Center app a makeover. This allows the hub to access easily, placing useful apps. These apps mainly include SteelSeries Engine, Nvidia GeForce Experience, MSI True Color and Killer Network Manager under tabs.
The System Monitor tab helps in checking the status of your system. Whereas the LED Wizard helps you to create custom indicator lighting. There is a System Tuner which allows you to create profiles that control VR optimization, display color temperature and much more. Tools & Help is where you’ll find software for Burn Recovery and Battery Calibration. There are some of the third-party apps that include Flipboard, Candy Crush Soda Saga, Twitter and Magix Music Maker.
Gaming and VR:
The new gaming laptop of 2017, Stealth Pro is a VR-capable gaming notebook. This is all because of its Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 GPU. It is featured with 6GB of VRAM. The laptop hit 7.4 during the SteamVR Performance test. With this, its performance crossed the P55W’s 6.6. However, it couldn’t hit the 8.4 category average.
Nvidia Pascal also provides a significant boost to games like Witcher 3. The Stealth Pro notched 58 frames per second on the Hitman benchmark on very high at 1080p. This seemed to fail to match the 70 fps average but is enough to top the P55W’s 57 fps. The MSI held onto its lead during the Grand Theft Auto benchmark, scoring 49 fps, and beat the P55W’s 33 fps, but not the 49-fps category average.
Battery Life:
The battery of the Stealth Pro can simply last for 2 hours and 54 minutes with a full battery charge. This has been proved with continuous web surfing over Wi-Fi. This seems to work well below the 6:32 mainstream average. The Equinox lasted 3:09, while the Alienware 15 came out with 7:13.
Performance:
The Stealth Pro is outfitted with a 2.6-GHz Intel Core i7-6700HQ processor with 16GB of RAM. The processor itself makes it comparable to most of the gaming laptops available on the market. In a test, it proved to work its best with being up to 14 tabs open in Google Chrome simultaneously.
The laptop scored 13,339 on the synthetic performance test. This shows that this gaming laptop easily hits the 7,780 mainstream average. The P55W, Equinox, and Alienware equipped with Core i7-6700HQ CPUs of their own, achieved 13,530, 13.525 and 13,494, respectively.
The Stealth Pro’s 256GB M.2 PCIe SSD is paired with a 1TB and 5,400-rpm hard drive. This tore through the File Transfer Test, duplicating 4.97GB of multimedia files in 9 seconds. It found the transfer rate to be 565.5 megabytes per second. During a Test, the Stealth Pro paired 20,000 names and addresses in 3 minutes and 38 seconds. The P55W scraped out the win at 3:37, while the Alienware 15 and Equinox finished at 3:50 and 4:40 respectively.
The only flaw with this laptop is that the laptop gets heat very quickly while it is being used for a continuous period. As every device has a demerit, this found to be the flaw in this Stealth Pro. The best about this is that it’s one of the best Windows 10 gaming laptops.
Conclusion:
The Windows gaming laptop – Stealth Pro is one of the best and slimmest laptops which costs Rs.1,77,900. It is featured with 2.6-GHz Intel Core i7-6700HQ processor with 16GB of RAM, a 512GB M.2 SATA SSD with a 1TB 5,400-rpm hard drive. It also features a Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 GPU with 6GB of VRAM. The display resolution is 1920 x 1080 and had a Killer N1535 Combo wireless card.
