Homemade Mayonnaise
Mayonnaise is generally used in salads, cutlets, sandwiches, and much more depending on our taste. Usually, you buy it and store for use in any recipe. When you require mayonnaise in one of your recipes and unfortunately, you found that the jar is empty. It may be a bit difficult to go to the stores and buy one. Do you think there is any alternative option to use instead? I’m sorry! Actually, there isn’t. But….
Do you know that it’s really easy to prepare at home? More of it, it requires simple ingredients and only a few minutes of your time to prepare this.
Let us see the ingredients and preparation of mayonnaise.
Ingredients:
- Eggs – 2
- Olive oil/Grapeseed oil – 1 cup
- Lemon juice/vinegar- 2 teaspoons
- Salt
Preparation?
Step 1: Take the egg yolk out of the 2 eggs in a bowl. Use room temperature eggs. Otherwise, mayonnaise won’t thicken.
Step 2: Pour 2 teaspoons of lemon juice into the bowl with egg yolk and mix them well with a whisk.
Step 3: Slowly pour the cup of oil in a slow and steady stream into the bowl and continue whisking. Doing this constantly will start thickening the mixture. Since we have used egg yolk, it contains a natural emulsifier, lecithin, that will help thicken the ingredients.
Step 4: After pouring oil, whisk it briskly until the oil incorporates in it. After which the output product looks thick.
Step 5: If it becomes thicker than required, pour 1 teaspoon of water and whisk it again until you get a complete product.
Step 6: Finally, add a pinch of salt for seasoning the mayonnaise and mix it well.
That’s it! Now you are ready with the mayonnaise to use in your recipes. You can store the homemade mayonnaise for 3 days when stored in a closed container and refrigerated.
