Turn Off Seen Function In Facebook Messenger
Nowadays social media apps have become very common and a huge number of these are available in the SmartPhone Stores. These social media apps allow sending quick messages to other persons. You can also know whether the person on the other side had received it instantly. Not only this, but you can also know they are online and paying attention. Most will let you know whether the message you have sent is read or not with the help of seen function.
But think of having this option in case you want to ignore someone. Do you really want that?
Frankly, this can be an unwelcome feature if you don’t want the person to know you’ve read their message. In that case, turning off the “seen” function, commonly given as read receipt in the smartphones, is easy enough.
Technically, there is no option in Facebook to disable read receipt in messenger. Instead, you’ll need to install an extension to your browser to prevent read receipts from going through.
Using Facebook Unseen Extension :
For Chrome users, downloading the Facebook Unseen extension will fulfill your needs. Once it is installed, right-click the Unseen icon next to the address bar in Chrome and make sure that “Block the ‘seen’ feature of the chat” option is checked. Even there are more options, such as those which prevent the “typing” indicator from appearing and one that disables the ability to see if others have read your messages.
Using AdBlock Plus :
If you aren’t a Chrome user or if you don’t want to install another extension yet, there is an alternative. If you use AdBlock Plus, you can add the following URL to the custom filters :
Then navigate to the options menu, click the Add your own filters tab, and paste the URL. Click the Add Filter button to finish the process.
iOS and iMessage
It’s easy to turn off read receipts on an iPhone. Under the Settings menu, tap Messages. From there, just switch Send Read Receipts to off.
You can also disable iMessage seen notifications through your Mac as well. To do so, open Messages, navigate to Preferences and select Accounts. Like on iOS, make sure Send Read Receipts is switched to off.
WhatsApp’s read receipts feature is easy to disable. Just tap on the three vertical lines in the top-right corner of the app. Then, tap Settings, select Account, and tap on Privacy. On the following screen, uncheck the Read receipts option near the bottom of the page.
In Outlook, read receipts are disabled by default. By mistake, if they’ve been enabled or maybe you wish to temporarily turn them off, then click on Options under the File menu. In the new window that appears, click the Mail tab and scroll down to the Tracking section. There will be two options available here : “Delivery receipt for confirming the message was delivered to the recipient’s email server,” and “read receipt confirming the recipient viewed the message.” Uncheck these boxes, and then click OK to apply the changes.
These are the simple ways to switch off the seen function in Facebook Messenger and iMessage. And some other apps have also been explained in the article for other OS users in getting the process done.
