Basically, the computer performs a number of operations and runs programs. Not all the programs are useful for the future. Some of the programs remain unused once it is run. These can be deleted or uninstalled since there might not be any use storing them on the hard disk. We know that when the hard disk is completely or almost full with contents or programs, the speed of the system reduces automatically. We can get rid of this by deleting the unused programs from the hard disk.

When the hard disk is kept free from the unwanted programs, it will make your PC/laptop faster in performances. But there are a few programs that run in the background even we don’t know. Even a new laptop will have some programs stored in it to perform the basic functions to get into.

Follow the steps below to uninstall the unwanted programs from the PC/laptop.

  • Go to “Control Panel”
  • Click on “Programs” in the control panel
  • Then tap on the “Programs and features”
  • Now, this shows the list of all the programs on your laptop/computer. You can select the unwanted programs and click on uninstall by right-click on the program.

2. Automatically delete temporary files:

Temporary files accumulate more space on your computer through everyday tasks remain on the hard disk. These can be deleted soon after the program is run. Otherwise, this will fill the hard disk and automatically slow down the overall system performance. Erasing the Internet history and cookies along with the unused programs leaves your laptop with more hard disk space. In turn, this will result in increasing the speed of the PC/laptop.

To get this done,

  • Go to “My Computer” and select your local drive(C).
  • Now click on Windows folder and then find the “Temp” folder.
  • Right-click on the temp folder, click on view and details in the drop down.
  • Delete all the files that are older than the present date. You can now find all the deleted files in the recycle bin. If you want, you can even delete them from the recycle bin too.

3. Use an antivirus software:

If there exists an Anti-Virus Software already in your PC/laptop, check if there is any virus causing the issues. If there’s no Anti-Virus Software in your system, get one software downloaded. Because the virus is a program that cannot make your PC/laptop faster as it takes the rights which are available only for OS and starts using for itself. There is a wide range of viruses which can harm your computer. Some of these viruses would actually do many activities by themselves without your intervention either.

4. Get more RAM:

We are familiar with RAM, the temporary storage memory used by your computer. It is used when tasks are being executed by different programs. More RAM is needed to use more programs and this reduces the speed of your computer if there’s no enough space. This can be clearly notified when the system slows down while processing large files.

You can either add more RAM with an extra memory stick or two or get a new memory if all the slots are filled. There is theoretically no upper limit on the amount of RAM that you can have with a 64-bit operating system. But practically, 4GB is more than enough for most people.

5. Run disk clean up:

Windows also include a built-in disk de-cluttering tool called “Disk Cleanup”. It finds the unnecessary large files such as temporary Internet files, program installers, and so on through the system. You can get this done by clicking the Windows Start button, go to All programs and then tap on Accessories. From the drop down select “Disk Cleanup” in the System Tools.

6. Restart your computer:

Whenever you feel that your computer is running slow then simply close all the operations and run your Ccleaner. This erases the data which is stuck up in your PC’s RAM and obstruct it. Then Restart your machine. This may work because, during the booting process, a small program will initiate the hardware parts to function along with the operating system. So the process which the user requires will function properly.
Due to some issue, the operating system is unable to effectively utilize the available hardware. Then the operation which relies on that particular hardware would result in waiting for that hardware. This results in lagging of the machine. So a simple restart would reboot the machine and will re-initialize all the existing connections between hardware and operating system from start. This will not lag your system as all the hardware is in sync with the OS.

If all these tricks don’t work to make your PC/laptop faster, Then it’s better to change the hard disk of your system. Otherwise, if any of the tricks gets your system done with faster performance, go ahead with the same PC/laptop.
