iPhone 8 Plus

iphone 8 plus review

iPhone 8 Plus is the completion of iPhone 8 if you feel that this previous version has been left out with a few features. This phone has extended its battery life more than what the previous flagship has. And this would be the best choice for those who opt battery to be their first preference.

Comparing the iPhone 8 Plus with that of the iPhone 8, the latest has upgraded its screen, processor, and camera. The release of this flagship was announced to be in September 2017 and is now available at Rs.73,000 (nearly $1,111).

Design of iPhone 8 Plus:

Design

This is the fifth version of Apple iPhone that it has stuck with the basic look for the iPhone 6, 6S, 7, 8, and now 8 Plus. But the design has attracted the users and it was the least attractive design before four years. The iPhone 8 Plus replaced its aluminum back panel with a durable glass. This glass gives a feel which is far better than the aluminum panel. It holds the grip and is slightly heavier than the previous ones so as to eliminate the slips and falls from the hand.

It is an IP67 water-resistant device and this is one of the best features that made the iPhone popular in the smartphone market. This can also be found in the iPhone 7. Apple has the best coloring for its phones like the gold hue in the recent times. The colors include rose gold, harsh gold, dull silver, space gray, and Jet black. The addition of the glass gives the iPhone a creamy, almost retro 70s vibe.

The iPhone 8 Plus features a 5.5-inch display which is less than the display of other companies like Samsung, LG, and many others. But Apple changed its style of iPhone with the iPhone X that features a bezel-less smartphone.

Display:

The iPhone 8 Plus features a 5.5-inch IPS LCD screen with 1080 x 1920p resolution. This flagship is capable of displaying the wide-P3 color gamut. It has used a True Tone Technology that alters the color temperature of the display depending on your atmosphere. It reduces the harsh blue tones typically with an LCD in a softly lit room.

Apple hasn’t used the full OLED for its display for the iPhone 8 Plus. Instead, the iPhone X gets the better saturation and near-perfect blacks which comes with an OLED panel. It also gets a much better contrast ratio and offers true HDR. Whereas the iPhone 8 Plus is capable of playing the HDR movies from iTunes. But the annoying thing is that even if the iPhone 8 Plus can playback HDR movie, they won’t look so colorful or rich.

Camera:

The iPhone 8 Plus features a Dual 12MP primary camera with phase detection autofocus, 2x optical zoom, quad-LED flash. One of these Dual rear cameras is 28mm f/1.8 wide-angle camera and the other is 56mm f/2.8 telescope camera. The telescope camera is the one responsible for 2x optical zooming.

It features an 8 MP front camera with f/2.2 lens and 1080p@30fps, 720p@240fps. It also consists of a face detector, HDR, and panorama. The color and dynamic range of the camera are excellent with sharply detailed images. Even when the bright lights blow out the highlights, the camera is capable of giving you sharp images.

Apple has added portrait lighting along with the portrait mode with the iPhone 8 Plus. This mode adds an effect that’s supposed to mimic professionally staged lighting. Apple insists this isn’t simply a filter, but instead uses face tracking to build up a picture of the face and then add the desired lighting on top. There are a number of options to select from. They include the hit-and-miss Stage Lighting that focuses on the face and the remaining things turn black.

Software:

The iPhone 8 Plus runs on iOS 11, which is found to be one of the best versions of Apple’s operating system yet. You can install the iOS 11 on the other versions of iPhone with the reception of any notification regarding the Operating System. It adds a new Control Center, better Siri, AR support, and much more.

Performance:

The iPhone 8 Plus runs with the A11 Bionic processor from the company. The A11 Bionic affects everything that happens inside the iPhone and it puts current Qualcomm Snapdragon chips. It also features a 3GB RAM along with either 64GB or 256GB of storage available.

This is a Hexa-core processor with two high-powered and four low-powered cores. The iPhone 7 is still a fast phone, but the iPhone 8 Plus can use that power for various things besides making the interface smooth to flip through. It uses it for the Portrait Lighting effects in the camera and also for playing AR games developed with ARKit.

Apple has updated the stereo speakers. This makes the iPhone 8 Plus one of the best-sounding phones. This speaker’s bass is heavier, the volume is louder and there’s no distortion even in the highest audio. This is the first iPhone with which you can listen to songs without connecting a Bluetooth speaker.

Battery Life:

Apple is opted by most of the users because of its battery capacity and battery life. But the iPhone 8 Plus holds a battery cell which is slightly smaller than the last year’s models. Even though, with a smaller cell, it can last its juice equal to the previous ones because of the more efficient A11 Bionic chip.

But the initial stamina of the of iPhone’s battery used to be the biggest issue. This has been dropped for the last few years. The iPhone 8, 8 Plus and iPhone X are the first Apple phones to support wireless charging. This wireless charging has been featured in many flagships of other companies like Samsung’s Galaxy S5.

Now, the iPhone uses the open Qi charging standard. This means that the iPhone 8 Plus can be charged up with a host of pads. Apple will be coming out with its own version, dubbed AirPower, next year. But until then it’s recommending a Belkin or Mophie pad.

Finally, the 5.5-inch iPhone 8 Plus comes with the A11 Bionic processor and best software, stereo speakers, many other features. But there are a number of improvements and enhancement with the iPhone 8 Plus in its camera, processor, display, and performance.
