We already know that the Android experience is built around Google’s services. But did you ever thought of using a different provider for your email? You may use Outlook or Hotmail account as the service provider on your Androids device. Outlook is one of the most popular free email services on the web. Now Hotmail is a part of Outlook.

You may also use more than one account across a number of devices. The service providers like Live MSN, Outlook or Hotmail account can be set up on your Android device as an ActiveSync Exchange account. This can be set up if you’re using more than one account. This will let you keep easy track of all your emails, calendar, and contacts.

Android has a huge number of email apps. This can, especially, be useful for power users who have to deal with many email accounts every day. Most people are better served sticking with the two big name apps. If you use only Outlook or Hotmail account, or if you’re trying to steer clear of Google apps, then Microsoft’s official Outlook client is the one to choose.

1. Set Up Outlook App

Step 1: Launch the Outlook app. An Add account screen will appear. Choose Outlook for your Microsoft account, even if your email address is @hotmail.com or @live.com.

Step 2: Add your email address and password. You need to turn on the two-factor authentication for keeping your account secure. Now, enter the two-factor authentication code.

Step 3: Tap on the cog icon in the top right corner to access the Settings. Check if the Focused Inbox is turned on. The Filter button on the inbox screen enables you to filter your messages further. It shows only unread or flagged messages or those with attachments.

Now you will get quick access to your Microsoft calendar, contacts, and other files. this will show you attachments and files from the linked cloud accounts.

Access Outlook In Gmail App:

Step 1: Open Gmail and slide out the sidebar from the left edge of the screen. Tap the small arrow next to your account name. Then select Add account.

Step 2: Tap Outlook, Hotmail, and Live from the list of available setup options. Enter your email address, password, and two-factor authentication code.

Step 3: Tap Yes to give the Gmail app permission to access your account. You can keep the defaults for checking new emails every 15 minutes or select some other time from the given options.

It’ll take a few seconds for your emails to load from your Outlook account. Once done, you’ll be able to see your inbox.

Step 4: At the top of the screen is the option to use Gmailify. Tap “Give it a try” to get started, then click through the subsequent screens.

Gmailifying an account will import all your emails automatically into your Gmail account. They will be sorted and filtered as normal Gmail emails are. When you reply to any of those emails, you will continue to use your Outlook email address.

2. Set Up Hotmail App

Step 1: Open your mail, go to settings and click to add a new mail account.

Step 2: Type your email address and password and click on Manual setup.

Step 3: Then select Microsoft ActiveSync Exchange or its equivalent.

Step 4: An account setup screen will appear. In the Domain/Username, fill in your email address (johnsmith@hotmail.com) completely. Then enter the password of the email address. Type m.hotmail.com in the server (Exchange Server). Mark a tick for Use SLL and Accept all SLL certificates. Make sure that Use client certificate is kept unticked. After filling all these, Click on Next.

Step 5:

  1. Select the sync options you need. ‘Push’ inbox checking frequency is recommended if you’d like your emails to download automatically when they are sent to you. Or if you’d rather keep an eye on your data, select ‘Manual’ (or ‘pull’) so emails are only downloaded when you open your mail app.
  2. If you’re given the option; set the email size limit, that your device will download, to your desired limit. Then tap Next.

Step 6: Follow the prompts to continue, select a name for your new Exchange account and complete the setup.
