Setup and Use OpenVPN

OpenVPN stands for Open Source Virtual Private Network. It creates point-to-point in bridged configuration and provides Remote access facilities. Open Search Engine and type this link openvpn.net

Go to Community and select Downloads

There appears a VPN version along with released date

You can find the Installer

Click on the link appeared beside Installer Windows 7 and later

Now OpenVPN will be downloaded with the version of 2.4.6-I602.exe

After it is downloaded, it shows an alert like the below image mentioning Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device”

Select Yes to install it.

Click Next

Read all the points in the License Agreement and select I Agree visible below.

Choose the components and features of OpenVPN processes as well the services if its running.

Select the components you want to install in your PC.

After selecting, tap Next

Select the Destination folder you want to place your Open Source VPN

Choose Install Location, and tap Install

A window appears with an alert “Would you like to install this device software?”

Always trust software from “OpenVPN Technologies, Inc.” will be displayed

You should check the checkbox of trust software from OpenVPN Technologies, Inc.

Then install it

Tap Next, after completing installation

Tap Finish

By Default, the procedure is stored in Notepad.

Tap Start windows icon as all are using Windows 10 version now-a-days.

Type “This PC”

Open local disk C:Drive

Tap and open the drive which appears as the above image

Open Program Files

Then you will find a folder named OpenVPN with the date and time you installed it in your PC

Tap on OpenVPN

It displays all the folders and icons in it with exact locationvpn14

Select config folder and open it

It visibles README text saved in Notepad

Go to Windows start then it visibles OpenVPN GUI otherwise type OpenVPN GUI

Tap on OpenVPN GUI

Later go to the upward arrow mark situated below right corner

Then you will find an icon as system lock

If you move your cursor to that it appears OpenVPN GUI

Right-click on that, so there exists three options like Import file, Settings and Exit.vpn16

You can be able to find configuration files on your VPN service’s Support page. Those config files comes with ZIP file packaged. Though you’re unable to find you can connect it.

Choose the configuration files and copy those to the proper folder.

Also copy the key and the configuration file to C: drive

Next go to Program files

Then OpenVPN and next config folder

The correct location is C:\Program Files\OpenVPN\config 

Otherwise it will be located at C:\Program Files (x86)\OpenVPN\config.

Right-click on OpenVPN GUI

Options will be displayed, tap on Run as administrator

Confirm that OpenVPN is not already getting run before you start itself by checking the icon below at the bottom right corner.

Right-tap on the OpenVPN icon in your System Tray. A list of servers based on the files you copied into the OpenVPN config folder will be displayed.

Choose the server you need and tap “Connect”

Once if you signed up for the VPN service, an alert will be appeared asking to enter your username and password

Make sure that you are connected or not. A notification appears indicating that you’re connected to the VPN server.

VPN will now receives your internet traffic. If you’re connected click on Reconnect button, so that it refreshes the internet traffic.

Connect the VPN without configuration files. You can connect and download the correct files.

Start OpenVPN and enter the IP address i.e. Internet Protocol address or hostname of the server

When an alert appears, enter your username and password

If prompted select your profile

Choose “Always” when an alert appears to accept the certificate.
