Xplore XSlate R12
The Xplore XSlate R12 is a rugged slate Windows tablet. It features with the Intel Core i5 or i7 processor, a full HD display, a removable kickstand that also acts as a carrier for a wireless keyboard.
The XSlate R12 is a sleek and lightweight Tablet PC that has innovative accessories. This has a 128GB to 512GB Solid State Drives (SSD) and also is optimizes for mobility. It can also be used as a replacement for desktops. The XSlate R12’s display measures 12.5-inches. It weighs just less than 3 pounds and can withstand drops up to 4 feet height.
Design:
The XSlate features it’s 800Nit View Anywhere technology for advanced outdoor visibility. The display is covered with a break-resistant Gorilla Glass to make the device suitable for rugged environments. The accessories used in the XSlate tablet are made to produce incomparable efficiency and a high productivity in public safety, construction, and field service.
The device measured 0.75 x 12.93 x 8.17 inches (HWD) which are thinner than its previous versions. It has Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0, integrated fingerprint reader, rear-facing and front-facing cameras, and dual hot-swappable batteries.
Display:
The display measures 12.5 inches with 1920 x 1080 full HD resolution. The display has high visibility and is readable even in sunlight. This makes it very useful for architects and construction workers. It features 800Nit with View Anywhere technology. It has a capacitive dual-touch display. It supports touch gestures for scrolling, panning, zooming, and rotating.
Ports:
The I/O ports for this device is available on the two non-locking doors to the right side. The first door has a port for an optional Ethernet and serial port. The second one has a jack for the AC adapter and headset, a USB 3.0 port, and an HDMI port. Unfortunately, this device lacks USB Type-C port. However, this won’t be a demerit to select this tablet.
Underneath the hot-swappable battery, there is a microSD card slot, a SIM card slot for the built-in 4G LTE radio, and a smart card slot that supports government-issued common access cards (CAC). This CAC is used by the military. Bluetooth 4.2 and 802.11ac handle short-range wireless communication. The 4G LTE adapter is carrier unlocked and has GPS built in.
Keyboard:
This device features a keyboard and a kickstand that are enough convenient. The keyboard works with Bluetooth technology and takes a few seconds to wake up from idle. The removable kickstand acts as a carrier for the wireless keyboard. The wireless keyboard is magnetically attached to the back panel. The device along with the keyboard and kickstand weighs 4.09 pounds.
The keyboard is an innovative one that charges itself from contact on the back panel of the tablet. So there is no need to carry any micro USB cable all the time with you. Although the keyboard can be charged with a micro-USB cable back at your desk. The keyboard has a built-in touchpad so that you need not carry any mouse with you.
Performance:
The system is equipped with an Intel Core i7-7500U processor with Intel HD Graphics 620. The quad-core processor is more powerful than the usual Core i5 CPU found in most rugged tablets.
The XSlate R12 lasted 8 hours, 59 minutes, on our battery rundown test. That certainly qualifies as all-day computing. That’s only 15 minutes less than the Getac F110, our class leader, and several hours longer than any other tablet in this group.
The Xplore XSlate R12 is a powerful and sturdy Windows tablet made for harsher conditions than the average business PC. It can handle high-stress environments where it has to survive being dropped. With double the memory and storage, a much higher resolution screen, and good components, it’s a strong performer. For that reason, the XSlate R12 jumps the Getac F110 as our choice for rugged Windows tablets.
