The coronavirus pandemic has turned the whole world topsy turvy, as the death toll from the disease rises and there’s no visible end to the whole epidemic insight.

Daily Life from Corona Virus

The effects of the virus can be easily seen everywhere around us.

A simply stroll in the street and you will certainly notice a bunch of people with masks on, and people generally making sure they keep their distance from each other.

Now, while most of the prescribed measures of social distancing and mask-wearing are only recommended for the time being, it is also true that some of the changes that the COVID19 brought about are likely to stick around for longer than we anticipated.

In this article, we’re going to talk about some of the changes to our day-to-day lives that the coronavirus is likely to cause for extended periods.

Here’s the deal.

Online Grocery Shopping

Although online grocery shopping wasn’t introduced because of the pandemic, the number of people that are getting their fruits, veggies, meat, and instant noodles this way is growing exponentially due to the virus.

The thing is, going to a supermarket to buy your groceries means you’re exposing yourself to the risk of contracting the dreaded virus, so ordering your food online has presented itself as a useful alternative during this trying period.

So, as more and more people are ordered to self-isolate, or simply reduce their contacts with the outside world to the minimum, it seems as if grocery shopping will be one of the departments that will increasingly move online, so to speak.

Remote Work

Remote Work

Another aspect of our day-to-day lives that is moving online more and more would certainly be work.

Of course, similarly to grocery shopping, working online is nothing new, but what is different now is that even the businesses which preferred to have their employees come to work in person are now switching over to an online mode of work.

Of course, not all jobs can be simply moved online, so there are still many people who go to work every day despite the pandemic and its perilous implications. That said, pretty much all the companies that can allow their employees to work remotely are either doing so already or are moving in that direction.

Face Mask

Face Masks

While wearing face masks is nothing new for many people in Asian countries such as China or Japan, it looks as if this piece of apparel has made its way to the rest of the world, too, thanks to the pandemic.

Seeing how many people nowadays use their face masks as not only the first line of defense against the COVID 19 but also as a fashion accessory, it looks as though this new trend is here to stay, at least for a while.

Face masks come in all shapes and sizes, and there are models out there based on strips of cloth sewn together, there are surgical masks, and then there are special masks such as the p2 respirator mask, for example, which are made for protection against airborne viruses and other pollutants.

Going to the Cinema

… will certainly be the same after the pandemic is over – and not necessarily only due to the virus, either.

Just as the famous song says ‘Video killed the radio star.’, we could start saying ‘Netflix killed the movie theater’ – and the pandemic isn’t helping, either.

The thing is, pandemic or not, fewer and fewer people are going to the cinema, so the future of this form of entertainment doesn’t look that bright, even after the pandemic finally subsides.

Of course, we don’t mean to say that going to the movies will die completely as a pastime of many people, but the number of moviegoers will certainly climb back up only slowly after the pandemic.

All in all, from moving jobs and errands online to canceling our pastimes and making us wear masks, this pandemic has not been kind to anyone, especially to those that have died of it. Hopefully, these changes will only be here for a limited period, and the world will receive some badly-needed breathing room soon.
