In the recent times, it was officially confirmed that there are no cats and dogs without homes in the Netherlands. The government managed to do this without causing any harm to the animals. The authorities made strict laws against animal abuse in order to ensure dogs’ rights.
2. The Netherlands has the world’s first solar-powered bike lane:
The project, “SolaRoad” resulted from a collaboration between the government, private sector, and academia. The first part of the path was opened in 2015. Its length is just 100m, but this is a huge breakthrough in the construction of the roads of the future. The main concept of this project is that solar power from the road should be used for street lights and charging electric vehicles.
3. Charging points for electric cars are located within 50m of each other:
The sustainable transportation system is one of the strengths of the Netherlands. That’s why many charging points were opened for those who drive electric cars. This was an idea to stop the usage of gasoline- and diesel-powered vehicles.
4. In the Netherlands, there is a town where nobody drives cars:
The “Dutch town of Houten” is said to be the safest place in the world. In the beginning of the 1980s, some citizens of the town decided to encourage the town people to start cycling more instead of using cars constantly. And, step by step, all the citizens got used to pedaling bicycles.
5. The authorities are going to ban the sales of gasoline- and diesel-powered vehicles:
There won’t be available any petrol and diesel cars in the Netherlands by 2025. Moreover, the owners of the fuel cars need not have to pay tax for a private motor vehicle. As a result of this, the eco-friendly cars became 15,000 euros cheaper.
6. The Netherlands keeps having to close its prisons due to a lack of prisoners:
Long ago, the Dutch government started to take serious steps to reduce crime in the country. This resulted in being a huge success. Due to a lack of prisoners, 19 prisons have been closed since 2009. According to recent reports, the average incarceration rate in the Netherlands is about 163 people per 100,000. This count is less than half the incarceration rate of Brazil.
7. In the Netherlands there are eco-ducts — wildlife crossings for animals living in the forests:
One of the primary tasks of the Dutch government is the “Protection of wild animals”. Therefore, several wildlife crossings were constructed to allow the animals to cross roadways safely from one part of the forest to another.
