LG Watch Sport

Smartwatches nowadays have become common that everyone owns it. But at the same time, they are not contributing so much that most of the people are not completely satisfied with it or its performance. Now Google has Android Wear 2.0 as its second attempt. The Android Wear 2.0 is debuted on the LG Watch Sport and LG Watch Style. LG Watch Sport has been designed by the company to make you feel like the world on your wrist.

In the previous article, we have seen that the LG Watch Style packs a large screen, bigger battery, and other features. Now, the LG Watch Sport Android Wear smartwatch seems to beat the LG Watch Style. The LG Watch Sport costs Rs.22,500.

The LG Watch Sport is found to be more impressive than the Watch style. The body of this smartwatch is stout but has a pretty good look. But the battery of this Sport lasts more than the a day of playback and nearly three days in standby mode. The screen works well and has a bright display and the rotating crown is very handy. Apart from all these, there’s a very little lag with the Watch Sport.

Design and features:

Until now, we thought that the Samsung Gear S3 is the smartwatch that looks chunky, but the Watch Sport has defeated it with its big design. The LG Watch Sport is the company’s first fitness friendly wearable designed with a stainless steel. This Watch Sport is IP68 water and dust resistant. This is available in two colors: Dark blue and gray. Altogether, these design elements make the smartwatch look so handsome.

The LG Watch Sport is simply a small computer on your wrist. It packs a 1.38-inch round P-OLED panel with a resolution of 480 x 480. The Watch Sport is one of the thicker Android Wear with 14.2 mm thick. The Watch Sport was mainly designed for runners and for those who want a standalone watch for a complete day for outdoor use. It is powered by 1.1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2100 chipset inside the Sport, paired with 4GB of storage and you get 768 MB of extra memory space.

Coming to the radios and connectivity, it has Bluetooth, GPS, Wi-Fi, LTE, NFC for Android pay transaction, gyroscope, accelerometer, barometer and a nano-SIM slot. There is a heart-rate sensor and an ambient light sensor.

Apps on your wrist

The LG Sport is ultimately a vessel for a new version of Android Wear. It is all because of the hardware that it helps keep running things smoothly. But Android Wear has never felt this fast and flexible on watches even if they are packed with same components. Developers have now made it easier to download and manage apps on the wrist screen. The watch can achieve this installation independent on a phone It has a Google Play Store in the Watch Store itself. The update packs the ability to download certain apps directly to Wear 2.0 watches over a WiFi or LTE connection. It’s quick and works well, and now there are plenty of apps that work well right on the wrist.

The Watch Sport is also one of the first wearables to come with Google’s Assistant along with Watch Style. You can ask questions to your watch like to text or make a call to one of your friends. But the disappointment is that the time taken by the Assistant to respond is the questions. To achieve all these, the phone has to be connected via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi.

Some of the quick settings like screen brightness, volume, Do Not Disturb, and Airplane Mode are located in one menu when you swipe down from the home screen. And to see the notification, you can just swipe up. This is absolutely different from the multiple pages of options in older Android Wear versions. Notifications are color-coded based on the app, and the Google Inbox-style smart replies to messages have been mostly spot-on.

Google Assistant:

Pressing and holding the crown button calls up Google Assistant, or you just have to say “OK Google.” The functionality is almost identical to what you could do previously with voice search on Android Wear.
While the Android Wear can’t perform any function, the Assistant on Google Home can. It is more personable in controlling your smart home devices. You can ask it to tell you stories, jokes, and more as you can get these done with the Assistant on other platforms.

Google has built a great voice assistant that allows you to easily trigger actions like finding your heart rate, placing calls, setting a reminder, sending a text, and more. But there’s opportunity for more once Google decides to unify the Assistant across its platforms.

The company tells us Assistant on the watch will support third-party actions “like turning on/off the lights (through Philips Hue) and making a restaurant reservation (through OpenTable),” though no specific timeline was mentioned.

The display is crisp and decently bright even under the sunlight, though the always-on display mode is easily overpowered by bright sunlight. The day-to-day performance of the LG Watch Sport was generally found excellent. Even the new fitness functionality, which can track indoor workouts such as using the elliptical and doing squats, is more precise than the expectations. You can simply know the caloric credit for your workout with the Android Wear without even touching the watch.

The new Android Wear is excellent because it runs well on LG’s hardware. Now with the LG Watch Sport has made it easy to talk using your Sport on the wrist without your phone. And LG is not new to this since its second edition Watch urbane with LTE was the first Android Wear smartwatch with built-in mobile radio to call, text, and data.

It became easier with the improved software to launch your phone app and scroll through all your contacts. Although, asking the Google Assistant to connect to one your friends in the contacts list seems more accurate than relying on the voice command.

Battery Life:

Simply keeping the Watch Sport in Standby mode for a day will bring the smartwatch battery charge from 100 to 60%. If it works in standby mode in such a way, then think the device working in playback mode. It might not give a much apt result as expected. The smartwatch battery can last a full day without using the GPS or fitness tracking features. A heavy usage of the device will leave you with almost no battery charge at the end of the day. This says that the battery of this device needs more improvement and probably it just needs a bigger battery.

This is all about the LG Watch Sport that can be said to be the first and best smartwatch with Android Wear 2.0. It contributes a good performance as it simply seems like the world on the wrist.
