iPhone 8 Review

iPhone 8

Apple’s iPhone 8 is simply the iPhone 7S with just slight upgrades and improvements. These changes can be seen in the internals and some improved hardware on the outside. This definitely makes it the affordable upgrades for those coming from iPhone 6S. The flagship might not be happy for its release after the iPhone X. Likewise, iPhone 8 has the features not more advanced or enhanced than the iPhone X.

The iPhone 8 also offers a wireless charger and an improvement in the camera technology. The users looking for a smartphone in a reasonable price range would find this flagship more palatable option. The iPhone 8, unlike the other variants, is available in only two storage capacities: 64GB and 256GB. Its price starts from $699 for 64GB variant and $849 for 256GB. This flagship is expected for its pre-order from September 15 this year.

Design and features:

The iPhone 8 sports a form factor similar to the iPhone 7 (and 6S, and 6). But it has been designed with a huge change to make the phone competitive in 2017. The iPhone 8 is slightly thicker than its predecessors and the dimensions are 138.4 x 67.3 x 7.3mm and 10g heavier at 148g. There is a noticeable change that a glass rear has been introduced which seems much like the design of the iPhone 4.

The iPhone 8 comes with a more premium look when compared to aluminium. Apple claims that the glass is custom-made with a “50% deeper strengthening layer”. But we’re not sure what this is compared to. Also, the steel substructure is introduced alongside the 7000 Series aluminium band to provide extra frame reinforcement. It won’t protect against all drops.

home button

The iPhone 8 is limited to three colours: Gold, Silver, and Space Grey. There are the only shades available in this variant, unlike the previous ones. And thanks to iPhone 8 that the home button and the embedded Touch ID is available at the bottom of the display, unlike the iPhone X.

Display:

The display of iPhone 8 is one of the impressive features which sports a 4.7-inch screen that includes the home button. It’s a retina HD display with a sub FHD and with a screen resolution of 1334 x 750. This flagship also features a True Tone Technology which allows your iPhone to detect the ambient light in your settings. You can then adjust the white balance of the display accordingly. This adjustment will provide a better and improved viewing experience.

The screen of the iPhone 8 features the likes of 3D Touch and an oleophobic coating that helps to resists smudges.

Processor:

It sports a powerful mobile chipset called A11 Bionic chipset whose performance is quite impressive. The chipset also features a second generation Apple-designed performance controller. This is the reason to provide a great performance while playing games and using power-eating apps. However, using the iPhone 8 for these apps doesn’t eat up much battery power.

Software:

This variant features the iOS 11 which is the Apple’s latest iteration of its mobile Operating System. This iOS brings a bunch of features that includes the Files app and also supports Apple’s ARKit. It powers high-end augmented reality experiences on a range of compatible iPhones.

Camera:

The flagship features a 12MP rear camera with a larger and faster processor that provides zero shutter lag. Surprisingly, it performs well even in low-light conditions. There’s also a new colour filter in the lens, along with ‘deeper pixels’ and Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) for both photo and video. The camera provides high-quality AR experiences on iOS with superior tracking qualities. The camera is capable of recording 4K videos at 60fps which is an impressive feature.

Wireless Charging:

wireless charging

The actual reason behind Apple to reintroduce the glass rear on the smartphone is to include support for wireless charging. This feature was a demand by the Apple users from the company to offer wireless charging on the iPhone.

Apple has announced that it’d be compatible with Qi-certified wireless chargers. There’s no proprietary system like with the Apple Watch. It means that it’s compatible with the millions of Qi wireless chargers found around the world, from public places to those that you can buy online for use at home.

Apple is due to release its own wireless charging mat with advanced wireless charging technology. And this which will be never seen by competitors, but it’s not due out until 2018.

Finally, the iPhone 8 is a really impressive handset among predecessors. It has been enhanced and improved almost all its features except that the size and weight of the mobile is increased. Otherwise, the smartphone is the best option for all the Apple users and it’s affordable too.
