Dreams are a mysterious and interesting experience during a sleep. We dream about different kinds of subjects in which some might be scary, some are joyful, some be pleasant, some nightmares and many other emotions. Our brains work more at night (while sleeping) than in day time. There are some facts about dreams you may not be aware of.
Here are we to let you know these facts about dreams. You might have experienced after dreaming but maybe you have never analyzed.
1. We dream, but don’t remember:
Often we dream but we don’t remember what about we dreamt and what came in our dream. We forget half of the dream within 5 minutes after we wake up. And 90% of the dream is forgotten within the next 5 or 10 minutes. To whichever extent we struggle to remember what the dream was about, we won’t win to know the dream.
2. Blind People Also Dream:
People who are blind after their birth can dream and they see the images in their dream as we normally see. Do you think people who are born blind can dream? Yes! They do. But with the help of other sense organs like smell, touch, sound, and emotions. These people dream as they feel the things during the day.
3. Pets also Dream:
Some studies have proved that animals also dream during their sleep. They also have the same brain waves like humans while sleeping. You can observe your pet while sleeping. It moves its paws as it is running or chasing something. You can notice your pet making some strange sounds in the sleep while dreaming.
4. We See Only The Known Faces In Our Dream:
We see thousands and thousands of faces in our life. In fact, we don’t remember all the faces of the people we meet. But whenever we dream, we see only the known faces in our dream. It’s not that our mind is inventing new faces in the dream.
5. Everybody Don’t Dream In Color:
Nearly 12% of the people dream in black and white. Some studies have proved the majority of the dreams were black and white since 1915 to 1950. After which, it changed into color due to switch from black and white to color TV. Now, only 4% of the dreams of aged below 25 are in black and white. Dreaming in black and white reduced hugely.
6. Sleep Paralysis:
Rapid eye movement (REM) sleep is a normal stage of sleep characterized by rapid movements of the eyes. REM sleep in adult humans typically occupies 20-25% of total sleep, about 90-120 minutes of a night’s sleep. During REM sleep, the body is paralyzed by a mechanism in the brain. This happens in order to prevent the movements which occur in the dream from causing the body to move. However, it is possible for this mechanism to be triggered before, during, or after normal sleep while the brain awakens.
There are two characteristics of sleep paralysis. They are the inability to move which is generally called as paralysis and a sense of an extremely evil presence in the room with you. It doesn’t feel like a dream.
7. Inventions by Dreams:
Dreams are responsible for many of the greatest inventions of mankind. They give many ideas to invent new things to the world. Here are some of the few examples:

- Alternating current generator – Tesla
- DNA’s double helix spiral form – James Watson
- The sewing machine – Elias Howe
- Periodic table – Dimitri Mendeleyev
8. Creativity in Dreams:
As already said, dreams are responsible for inventions. At the same time, they recharge our creative knowledge with great interesting artworks. In rare cases of REM disorder, people actually don’t dream at all. These people suffer from significantly decreased creativity and perform badly at tasks requiring creative problem-solving.
9. Everyone Dream:
Almost all the people in the world will dream in their sleep. Except those with the extreme psychological disorder. If you think you are not dreaming, you are absolutely wrong. You will dream but the thing is you forget your dreams.
10. Four to Seven Dreams In One Night:
One of the interesting fact about dreams is that a person can dream four to seven dreams in one night. And these dreams eats up one or two hours of your sleep time. Actually, this happens that we dream more than one but we forget the dream. As mentioned before, we forget our dream within 5 to 10 minutes after we wake up. So we don’t know that we have dreamt a few dreams. Our dream jump from one subject to another. If we remember the dream, we can’t relate all those dreams to each other since they will be subjected differently.
